Asia Argento was raised in Rome by a filmmaker as well as an actor family. She pursued both professions herself. In 1985 she made her acting debut in the film of Sergio Citti, Sogni e bisogni. She had a leading role in the film as Cristina Comencini in her first film Zoo, 1988. Michele Soavi directed The Church 1989. In 1989, she played Nanni Moretti's (also directed) daughter in Red Wood Pigeon. It was in Close Friends (1992), written and directed by Michele Placido, that Asia's career took off. she was able to change from playing young girls to more complex, mature characters. Cannes International Film Festival received the film well. Trauma (1996) as well as The Stendhal Syndrome are others she's made with her famous father. The Phantom of the Opera is her third film with her father. The others are Trauma and The Stendhal Syndrome. Giuseppe Piccioni's Condannato a nozze showed Asia's absorption style in performing. The year 1999 was the year that Asia began her film-directing career with Scarlet Diva (2000), where she acted as the main actress and writer of the screenplay. It was released on May 20, 2000, both in Italy and across the globe. This film was awarded by the Williamsburg Festival of Brooklyn, New York. Anna Lou, the first of her two daughters, was born in January 2001. In 2002 Asia appeared on The Red Siren with Jean Marc Barr, and Rob Cohen's Action-Thrille, directed by Vin Diesel. Asia's short stories have also been featured in prestigious publications.
